Taking the Train in Italy

Check out the Italian Train System website for timetables/prices. It won't let you view prices (or book) for May yet, but you can view timetables. Have a look at say March timetables to get an idea about prices.

It is highly advisable that you have seat reservations for the ES* (EuroStar high-speed trains) and reccommended that you have reservations for the IC (InterCity trains). You can book online or by phone in advance, or book at the station earlier on the day of travel.

If you are flying into Milan and want to get to Vicenza on the same day that you arrive, give yourself PLENTY of time to get to the train station (Milan's Central Station or Milano Centrale). Remember you will have to clear customs and immigration AND the airport is a bit out of town. It may take 30-60 minutes beyond customs clearance to get the the station after you get bags, use the toilet, etc. I would allow AT LEAST 3 hours from time of arrival in Milan to time of departure at the train station.

Remember that MSU does not pay for (or organize) the train ride into Vicenza from your place of arrival or departure.

The bus is also an option for getting from the airport to Vicenza.
